Banned official Lambert departs AFL Lions

Brisbane Lions official Craig Lambert has left the club, months after the AFL banned him over the Lachie Whitfield affair.

Former Greater Western Sydney official Craig Lambert has parted ways with Brisbane, months after being banned over the Lachie Whitfield affair.

The Lions on Friday said Lambert had been released from the final year of his contract as retention and strategy manager in a mutual decision between the two parties.

Lambert had previously served as the Giants' welfare manager.

The AFL in November handed 12-month bans to Lambert and former GWS football boss Graeme Allen, and a six-month ban to Giants midfielder Whifield, for conspiring to avoid a potential drug test.

The trio were investigated after Whitfield spent three days at Lambert's house, with the knowledge of Allan, in May 2015 in an alleged bid to avoid drug testers.

Brisbane later accused the AFL of failing to warn them Lambert was under investigation when they recruited him.
