Barba fit for NRL Rd 1, but trial in doubt

Brisbane are yet to determine whether Ben Barba will play in their final NRL pre-season trial against the New Zealand Warriors in Dunedin on Sunday.

Brisbane are yet to decide whether to inject recovering prized recruit Ben Barba into their final NRL trial against New Zealand Warriors at Dunedin on Sunday.

But they have confirmed Barba will play their season opener against his ex-club Canterbury on March 7.

Brisbane were quick to rule out a recurrence of an ankle ailment that required surgery last year after Barba limped home from the inaugural Auckland Nines.

Barba was rested from the Nines final - which they lost to North Queensland - as a precaution.

Brisbane on Tuesday confirmed Barba was nursing a "minor foot problem" and would be considered for the Warriors clash this weekend.

In other injury news, English international Jack Reed and Josh McGuire are expected to run out against the Warriors this weekend after a successful return from off-season shoulder reconstructions in a weekend Queensland Cup trial.

Meanwhile, Brisbane confirmed David Stagg (knee) would be sidelined for four-to-six weeks after suffering knee medial ligament damage in the Nines quarter-final against Newcastle.
