Barcelona thrashed Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals 6-5 on aggregate in one of the most incredible matches in Champions League history, while Borussia Dortmund thumped Benfica 4-0 to overcome a one-goal deficit of their own.
At Camp Nou, Luis Suarez's third minute strike and Layvin Kurzawa's own goal got Barcelona off to a good start, with Lionel Messi adding the third as they bid to overcome their 4-0 first leg defeat.
Edinson Cavani struck for PSG to seemingly kill the game but two late goals by Neymar and one in stoppage time by Sergi Roberto sent the Catalans through, against all odds.
"I don't know how I scored," said Roberto. "I saw the ball coming from behind, fired in by Neymar, and I flung myself at it with everything I had.
"I saw it cross the line and then I saw myself under all my teammates, it was incredible, amazing. It is a goal and a moment I will never forget."
Meanwhile in Dortmund, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a hat-trick to help his side sail through, with Christian Pulisic adding another.
"It was excellent," Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel told broadcaster BT Sport. "We had a brilliant start, we scored with our first chance, which was very important.
"The second half was outstanding. We scored spectacular goals. The performance from the whole team was very good."
In Spain, Barcelona had pressed PSG from the first minute, with even the three-man defence playing most of the game in French territory, and got an early reward when Suarez capitalised on a scramble in the box to head over Kevin Trapp and send his side ahead.
The keeper saw his goal peppered afterwards although it took until the 40th minute for Barcelona to add another. Barcelona skipper Andres Iniesta's backheel in the area stunned Kurzawa, who ended up slicing the ball into his own net.
Five minutes into the second half Neymar won a penalty by colliding with the slipping Thomas Meunier. Lionel Messi converted the spot-kick expertly to put Barcelona on the verge of a sensational comeback.
Cavani looked to have ruined that when he lashed home a superb half-volley after Kurzawa's knock-down, but a late flurry of goals saw the hosts progress in remarkable fashion.
First, Neymar's precision free-kick in the 88th minute left Barcelona needing two more goals in the five minutes of stoppage time added on.
Suarez then won a debatable penalty as he tumbled in the PSG area, which Neymar fired home to set up a frantic finale.
The Brazilian then whipped in a cross which substitute Sergi Roberto prodded home from close range in the final minute to complete a most unlikely comeback.
"We have lost a huge opportunity," said losing PSG coach Unai Emery after the game. "We wanted to have more personality and presence. We have to learn from these negative experiences for the future.
"It's a negative experience for the players, for me and my staff."
