Barcelona great at Adelaide United

Barcelona great Guillermo Amor is spending a month at A-League club Adelaide United as a coaching consultant.

Adelaide United's Spanish connection has extended to Barcelona great Guillermo Amor spending a month at the A-League club as a consultant coach.

Amor, who played 37 internationals for Spain, is in Adelaide at the request of his friend and the Reds' Spanish coach Josep Gombau.

Gombau's friendship with Amor stretches back to their time as development coaches at Barcelona, where Amor made 311 La Liga appearances.

Gombau, seeking to implement Barcelona's renowned possession-based style at Adelaide, asked Amor to observe training and offer technical advice.

"I want to see how a style such as this is being implemented in a place where it is not common," Amor said.

Gombau, who was Barcelona's youth coach from 2003 to 2009, used his native connections to help secure two Spanish recruits for the last A-League season, midfielders Isaias and Sergio Cirio.

And Gombau's heritage also helped the Reds secure a friendly against La Liga club Malaga in Adelaide on July 25.
