Barnett and other MPs get death threats

Premier Colin Barnett says death threats have been sent to the homes of Liberal MPs, in an 'ugly end' to the election campaign.

A "large number" of Liberal MPs including WA Premier Colin Barnett and his deputy Liza Harvey have received threatening letters sent to their homes ahead of Saturday's election.

Security and a police presence were bolstered at Parliament House and around Perth's CBD on Friday and Mr Barnett's final press conference was relocated to ensure safety.

The identical letters say: "this is a warning to both you and your family, you stuffed up my life and my business through your partys' behaviour.

"So now every time you hear a bang or you think someone is watching you, it will be us. Women and children we will get them."

Mr Barnett said the letters, apparently from a disgruntled businessperson, were an "ugly end" to the campaign.

Ms Harvey urged anyone who knew more to contact police, and said the person responsible obviously had mental health issues that needed to be addressed.

Mr Barnett said it was particularly unnerving for MPs with young children.

"To issue death threats is a serious matter, the government and police are treating this in a serious and responsible way," he said.

Ms Harvey said she thought it was too easy for people to obtain the names and addresses of high profile public figures from the electoral roll.

Labor leader Mark McGowan said the incident was "completely unacceptable".

Mr Barnett said there had been an ugly end to the campaign generally, and claimed that union officials had been behaving in an intimidating way at pre-polling centre.

Senior Labor MP and former union official Fran Logan has come under fire after vision showed him telling an audience a Labor Government would fight any compensation claims by contractors when it cancelled the Liberals Roe 8 major road project.
