Barrett sticks with Hurricanes

All Blacks five-eighth Beauden Barrett has re-committed to the Hurricanes for two more years of Super Rugby.

All Blacks five-eighth Beauden Barrett has signed a two-year extension with Super Rugby's Hurricanes

The 23-year-old had been linked with Sir John Kirwan's Blues team, but said he felt he still had unfinished business with the Wellington-based side.

"We have a relatively young team here, and I really enjoy the role I play within the squad - it's been great for my overall rugby development," Barrett said.

"While some of our results this year have been a bit up and down, I feel as a team we have improved in what has been a really tight competition."

Barrett said he had enjoyed a supportive environment at the Hurricanes, and looked forward to working with new coaching staff next year.

Mark Hammett, Hurricanes coach for the past four seasons, has signed with Cardiff Blues and will be replaced by Chris Boyd and John Plumtree for the 2015 Super Rugby season.

"We have a relatively young team here, and I really enjoy the role I play within the squad - it's been great for my overall rugby development," Barrett said.

Barrett has played 52 matches for the Hurricanes since 2011, scoring 594 career points - 209 of those in 2014.

Hurricanes chief executive James Te Puni said the club was thrilled to re-sign Barrett, who had been a key player in recent seasons.

"Beaudy is a young man with incredible talent, and it's great to know he's chosen to be with us for the next two years."
