Barthel removes Rybarikova in Nottingham

Ashleigh Barty's path to glory at the Nottingham Open may have gotten a little easier after second seed Magdalena Rybarikova fell to Mona Barthel.

Second seed Magdalena Rybarikova has crashed out of the second round of the Nottingham Open after a defeat by Mona Barthel.

The German world No.117 saw off the Slovakian 6-3 1-6 7-5 to take her place in the quarter-finals.

There was, however, no such problem for third seed Naomi Osaka of Japan, who coasted past Czech player Denisa Allertova 6-3 6-2.

Romanian fifth seed Mihaela Buzarnescu is also safely into the last eight after she defeated Irina Falconi 6-3 5-7 6-3.

Top seed Ashleigh Barty will face Yingying Duan for a place in the quarter-finals on Thursday after compatriot Samantha Stosur takes on Brit Katie Boulter.
