Australians Ashleigh Barty and Anastasia Rodionova are one win away from securing spots in the US Open main draw.
Barty took less than an hour to dispose of America's Caitlyn Whoriskey 6-4 6-0 on Thursday to set up a final-round qualifying stoush with 2009 US Open quarter-finalist Melanie Oudin.
The 18-year-old Queenslander dominated the match, posting 22 winners to Whoriskey's 10 and sending down five aces.
It was a tougher task for compatriot Rodionova, who needed three sets to overcome 22nd seed Dinah Pfizenmaier 6-4 3-6 6-2 in her second-round qualifier.
She next faces Dutchwoman Richel Hogenkamp.
Barty and Rodionova are the last two Australians in qualifying, after James Duckworth and Thanasi Kokkinakis were eliminated earlier in the day.
Duckworth went down to American Ernesto Escobedo 6-2 7-6, while Kokkinakis was ousted by fellow 18-year-old Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan 7-5 4-6 6-4.
The US Open, the season's final grand slam, begins on Monday at Flushing Meadows.
