Basketball Victoria's chief executive has been banned from attending games after a verbal stoush with a referee at his daughter's under-12s match.
Nick Honey was given an eight-week suspension by Basketball Victoria's independent tribunal when he was found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute, gross breach of code and avoidable contact with an official.
Honey made physical contact with a referee supervisor who had turned their back on him.
The matter was heard in February with the ban ending on May 2.
Honey has remained in his position and while he has been barred from attending games as a spectator, he can still attend games for work purposes.
While Honey wasn't available for comment, a Basketball Victoria statement said he had apologised for his actions.
"Mr Honey realises as the head of sporting organisation he is held to a higher account than other basketball spectators and accepted his sanction without question," the statement said.
The revelation follows an incident involving AFL match review officer Michael Christian, who publicly apologised after criticising an umpire during his daughter's suburban football match.
