Australian goal shooter Caitlin Bassett had reason to stand even taller than usual after a record performance in the Netball Quad Series title win over New Zealand.

With the Diamonds winning 60-55 Bassett shot all of the Diamonds' 30 goals in the second half at Margaret Court Arena to post a total of 53, four better than her previous best Test mark.

That mark was set in the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal match and again in the semi-final of last year's Netball World Cup.

The 193cm Bassett said she was shocked by the benchmark haul, given it was against the world No.2 team.

"I came close against England and I was asked if I was going to reach the record and I said `absolutely not' because it's going to be really tight in defence so I was really surprised," the 28-year-old West Australian said.

"I'm super stoked with the win and the amount of ball the defenders turned over and then got down to me, it made my life a lot easier."

But the perfectionist said there was room for improvement after only shooting at 88 per cent, with her 53 goals coming from 60 attempts.

"I was a little bit angry because I could have shot 60 goals so there's more to work on," she said.

"Percentage wise I don't think I shot what I normally would and so I was a little disappointed but to get the win and to win the series and finish with that game I'm really proud."
