They're the Kings of the Mountain but Supercars pair David Reynolds and Luke Youlden crashed back to earth on the streets of Surfers Paradise on Saturday.
Fresh from their stunning win at the Bathurst 1000 earlier this month, the Erebus Motorsport pair's next race couldn't have been more different.
As persistent rain fell across the street circuit, Reynolds could only qualify 23rd in the 26-car field.
Co-driver Luke Youlden made some amends off the start line for Saturday's race, picking up a whopping seven spots before the first turn.
From there though the race quickly turned south.
The driver change after 34 laps was comical, a wedged driver's door forcing Youlden to exit from the Erebus Holden via the window before Reynolds dived in for his stint through the same opening.
Shortly afterwards Reynolds made contact with a tyre barrier early in his run.
"A bit of a cluster of errors today ... our car just didn't suit the wet conditions," Reynolds said after the 17th-place finish.
"Our driver change hurt us and we lost 20-seconds there before I made an error and lost a few more and I just couldn't battle for anything."
Sunday's forecast is much improved and with the Bathurst afterglow still shining despite the Gold Coast washout, Reynolds is hopeful of claiming a second career win on the streets of Surfers in the second and final 300km race of the weekend.
""We are hoping for drier conditions as we have strong cars in the dry," he said.
