BBC investigates Top Gear culture over repeated racist gaffes

The BBC are conducting an internal review of the popular Top Gear program after a series of offensive gaffes by presenter Jeremy Clarkson.

Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has made a number of racially charged remarks.

The BBC investigation will examine the culture and practices in place at Top Gear after continued racist remarks.

BBC director of television Danny Cohen ordered the review of the popular specialist car program after out-take footage emerged in May of Jeremy Clarkson incorporating the N-word into a nursery rhyme.

In July the UK's media regulator Ofcom ruled another instance of commentary by Jeremy Clarkson, from the March 2014 Burma Special, was in breach of broadcasting rules for use of an offensive pejorative racial term.

The ruling took into consideration 'that regular viewers of Top Gear were likely to be aware that the programme had previously used national stereotypes as a comedic trope, particularly to describe the characteristics of cars'. However despite the audience being able to adjust their expectations, this particular comment was still offensive.

Jeremy Clarkson was given a final warning over his behaviour earlier this year.
