Police are urging a western Sydney family to refrain from taking matters into their own hands after their home was shot at overnight.
A number of shots were fired at the home on Hope Street in Seven Hills about 3am (AEDT) on Sunday.
Police say there were people in the front of the house at the time of the shooting but no one was injured.
Detective Superintendent Gary Merryweather from Blacktown Local Area Command was unable to comment on speculation there may be a Lone Wolf bikie gang link to the crime but has told reporters the shooting was not random.
"We don't believe it's gang or bikie-related, we believe that it is a targeted incident, the people of that house are known to us and we're conducting investigations along those lines," he said.
"Police are of a view that the occupants of the house haven't been fully frank and honest.
"In fact one of the occupants of the house left prior to police arriving this morning because they were known, and they also have an outstanding warrant."
Det Supt Merryweather also urged calm amid reports the family was considering reprisals.
"I haven't heard that but yes, that is very concerning, if the family think they're going to take matters into their own hands," he said.
"It's important that when these incidents happen the occupants of the house and whoever lives at the house makes full disclosures to police so that we can conduct proper investigations into the matter."
NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson said the government needed to put its anti-gang laws into action.
"Twenty-five shootings this year, 333 shootings since Barry O'Farrell became premier. We can no longer afford to have a government that simply allows gun crime to spiral out of control," he told reporters.
"We've introduced in NSW some of the toughest gang laws in the nation. Those laws need to be used."
