Gerard Beale is preparing to play fullback again for Cronulla in their second-round NRL clash with Canberra on Saturday night.
Fullback-in-waiting Valentine Holmes remains in doubt with a hamstring injury, and it's understood Sharks medical staff are extremely cagey about risking him early in the season unless he is back to full fitness.
He trained in the injury rehabilitation group on Monday, while Beale filled in at the back, just as he did in their season-opening 26-18 loss to Brisbane on Thursday.
"Personally I enjoy playing fullback. I like the role and the challenge that it has," Beale said.
"There are a lot of players here that can play a lot of different positions. You will find out over the year it might change a lot, so whatever is best for the team is what we need."
Beale has played 21 of his 142 games at the back, but has regularly started in the centres or off the bench since coming to Cronulla in 2015.
