Beauty queen dies in Venezuala unrest

A former beauty queen who was fatally shot in the head is among the casualties of days of political protests in Venezuela.

A Venezuelan beauty queen has died after being shot in the head during a week of protests in her country.

Genesis Carmona, 22, was fatally wounded on Tuesday and was pronounced dead at a hospital in Valencia on Wednesday, according to officials.

Her death marks the fifth fatality since political unrest began in the country earlier this month.

Carmona, who was a student at the Universidad Tecnologica del Centro de Valencia, was crowned Miss Tourism Carabobo in 2013.

Venezuelan police fired tear gas and buckshot to disperse hundreds of anti-government protesters late on Wednesday as the death toll from two weeks of unrest rose to four.

Unrest stemming from anti-government fervour has been reported in several cities in the oil-rich but economically troubled nation.
