German journeyman Benjamin Becker has ended Australian John Millman's campaign at the Memphis Open with a 6-2 7-6 (8-6) victory.

Millman, who was seeded seventh for the tournament dropped the opening set in quick time before going up an early break in the second.

Becker eventually broke back and forced the second to a tie-break, racing out to a 5-2 lead before Millman rallied.

Millman had a set point at 6-5 but was unable to force a deciding set.

The German world no.107 reeled off three straight points to win the match and advance to the quarter finals.

Millman had made the quarter finals last week in Montpellier before losing 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 6-3 to another tour veteran in Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu.

Becker will next face either No.2 seed Steven Johnson or his 18-year-old American compatriot Taylor Fritz.

Earlier, Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis advanced to the quarters with a 6-3 6-4 win over eighth seed Damir Dzumhur.

He will face US third seed Donald Young in the quarters.

Young advanced with a comfortable 6-1 7-6 (7-2) win over Spaniard Marcel Granollers.

In later clashes American teenager Taylor Fritz won the biggest match of his career, beating second-seeded Steve Johnson 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (9-7).

The 18-year-old Fritz, the US Open junior winner last year, advanced to meet Becker.
