Beherendorff dreams of Tests after T20 win

After guiding Australia to victory in the second T20 against India, Jason Behrendorff has set his sights on earning a berth in the Test team.

West Australian paceman Jason Behrendorff says a Test debut is his ultimate motivation after a stunning man-of-the-match performance in his second international match for Australia.

The 27-year-old put on a fast bowling masterclass to inspire Australia to a dominant T20 victory over India in Guwahati.

The tall left-armer swung the ball back into right-handed batsmen and was rewarded with the wickets of some of the world's most destructive batsmen on their home soil.

"Test cricket is the ultimate prize and wearing the baggy green cap is something I'm sure all cricketers aspire to - I certainly do," Behrendorff said.

"That's something I'll be pursuing and doing everything I can to play Test cricket."

With James Pattinson ruled out for the summer with a back injury, Australia will be looking for another quick to be on standby during the Ashes.

Nathan Coulter-Nile was the leading wicket taker in the ODI series with India, mounting his case after more than a year out of international cricket with injury.

Behrendorff has also endured a run of injuries but has now been fit for nine months.

He took a record-breaking 9-37 in his Sheffield Shield comeback in February on his way to an incredible haul of 14 wickets for the match against Victoria.

His 4-21 against India was a fearsome display of new-ball bowling, rather than a variation-heavy T20 spell.

After being blasted for two boundaries by Rohit Sharma, Behrendorff bounced back with a superb inswinger which trapped the Indian opener plumb in front.

Virat Kohli was his next victim two balls later after he got an inside edge which ricocheted off his pad allowing Behrendorff to charge in and take the catch.

"That's what I generally try to do, swing it back. That's my plan up front especially to the right handers," Behrendorff said.

He looms as a handy replacement for fellow left-armer Mitch Starc if the Australian spearhead is rested or injured during the Ashes.

"We're left-armers, we both swing it a bit but Mitch bowls a bit quicker than I do," Behrendorff said.

Having never played in the IPL, Behrendorff's chances of winning a contract received a major boost ahead of next year's mega auction which will be boosted by a new TV deal.
