There are lessons for Belgium to learn from Australia's migration story as it grapples with the challenge of disaffected migrant youth at risk of radicalisation, its ambassador says.

In the wake of terrorist attacks in Brussels, Jean-Luc Bodson is examining and reporting back on Australia's vetting process for migration as well as institutions that assist people to integrate.

"People are coming (to Australia) with a dream, that's what we need - people coming to Belgium, not just for a convenient life, but with a dream of being a Belgian," he told AAP on Wednesday.
