Adelaide Thunderbirds captain Erin Bell has quit the Super Netball club.

Bell has rejected a fresh contract offer from the Thunderbirds, instead signing with rival club Collingwood on a one-year deal.

Adelaide coach Dan Ryan says he's disappointed in Bell's decision but understands her reasons.

"We offered Erin a new contract for the 2018 season and would have loved to have had her as part of our team," Ryan said in a statement on Friday.

"But after a tough couple of years, we understand her decision to move on.

"Erin has invested so much of herself into this club over the past eight years and has truly given it everything.

"As difficult as it is, we appreciate that the time is right for Erin to experience something new."

Bell has been Adelaide's captain for the past two seasons and was a member of the club's championship winning sides in 2010 and 2013.

The Thunderbirds won just one game in the inaugural Super Netball competition, prompting the 30-year-old's decision.

"I feel the time is right at this point in my career to experience something new," Bell said in a statement.
