Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy was expecting to face a Cronulla team that was 2-0 after two NRL rounds, not 0-2.
The Storm host the Sharks in round three at AAMI Park on Saturday night, with the visitors winless after two home games.
Bellamy's Storm are one win-one loss following their controversial two-point defeat by Manly last round.
Bellamy said on Wednesday he believed the Sharks, having put the doping saga behind them and recruited Ben Barba and Michael Ennis, would be one of the big improvers this season.
"They've got a really good, strong pack of forwards and some really quick backs and to have Barba and (Jeff) Robson there as their halves; I thought they would have won a couple of games by now," he said.
But Bellamy warned the Sharks had not been humbled.
"The opposition played pretty good and they certainly haven't been blown off the park," he said.
"I'm sure they will be really keen to come down here and play well and try to get win and we will have to be ready for them because they are a talented side."
A familiar face was back in Storm colours with former club great Dallas Johnson assisting with training on Wednesday.
Johnson has relocated back to Melbourne and Bellamy persuaded him to help out his old club.
"He's obviously one of our favourite sons so we've got him down here to get his advice on a couple of little issues," Bellamy said.
"The way he used to play in a tough way is a symbol of what we try and represent here at the Storm.
"He's a blue-print of what we want from our players."
Meanwhile Bellamy wouldn't be drawn on the NRL decision to retain referee Jared Maxwell for round three despite making a crucial error in the Storm's loss to Manly.
"At the end of the day it's not my decision and I'll leave that with (referees boss) Tony (Archer)," he said.
