Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy has praised Cameron Munster for stepping up while the Storm shuffled their halfbacks to find a replacement for Cooper Cronk.

Munster was integral to their 44-10 shellacking of Canberra, dancing through for a solo try while also setting up two others in their NRL clash at AAMI Park.

Following Cronk's departure to the Sydney Roosters, Munster has now been paired with Jahrome Hughes, who also showed some nice touches in his third start in the No.7 jersey.

Bellamy said Munster was again one of their best.

"I thought he played tremendously well again which is no surprise to anyone," Bellamy said.

"His involvement was great and he scored a wonderful try and he's taken up that slack I suppose that we lost a little bit with Cooper."

Bellamy praised the 23-year-old's mental and physical toughness.

The coach said the Queensland No.6 had proved unflappable with Brodie Croft, Ryley Jacks and now Hughes rotated as his halves partner.

"He pretty much adapts to most things and doesn't worry about a whole heap," Bellamy said.

"He really gets focused on his footy when it's time and outside that he's pretty carefree.

"He's come a long way this year - especially with his talking and organisation on the field and it's been a real plus for us so we're really happy."
