Bellamy says no to NRL coaches in NSW job

Melbourne's Craig Bellamy says he won't consider the NSW Origin job while he remains at the Storm and doesn't think any NRL coach could split his duties.

Melbourne mentor Craig Bellamy says an NRL coach taking on the NSW State of Origin job won't work.

Following Friday's sacking of Laurie Daley, NSWRL chairman Dr George Peponis said the Blues would consider current NRL coaches for the role.

Bellamy didn't rule out a return to the NSW top job but said he wouldn't consider it while he was still coaching the Storm.

He was the last man to split his duties, coaching both Melbourne and the Blues from 2008-2010.

Despite his stunning record with the Storm even Bellamy struggled for success, posting just two wins from seven games.

"I've heard they're thinking about an NRL coach and I just don't think you can do that," Bellamy said.

"If some NRL coach does that he's going to be burnt out by the end of Origin - it's so much work in both jobs.

"The time an NRL coach could coach Origin - I think that's passed and it's not viable or possible."

Bellamy said he hadn't been following the Blues coaching story closely because of his friendship with Daley, whom he felt had been treated poorly by the NSW hierarchy.

"I don't want to read about something that hurts a friend of mine and he's a really good friend and I don't think it's been done in the right way," Bellamy said.

"To me he's done a really good job there and I'm feeling for him."
