Australian Jason Belmonte has continued his astonishing run of tenpin bowling success with another Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) major championship crown.
Belmonte retained his title when he won the 50th anniversary PBA Tournament of Champions in Indianapolis with a 232-214 victory over top qualifier Rhino Page on Sunday - his fifth major title in three years.
The No.2 qualifier, Belmonte had strikes on seven of his first eight shots to lock up victory over Page and earned his second $US50,000 ($A64,300) cheque in a week.
Last Sunday, he made bowling history by winning the United States Bowling Congress Masters, also a major championship, for a record third consecutive time.
Over the past four seasons, Belmonte has advanced to the televised finals in 10 of 12 PBA major championships, winning five of them.
"I don't know what's going on, but I'm going to stay on the ride as long as I can," said Belmonte, who uses an unusual two-handed bowling style.
"I can't believe it myself.
"The ball is striking and I'm throwing great shots."
The 31-year-old Australian, already a leading contender for a third consecutive PBA Player of the Year award, started slowly in his semi-final against American Sean Rash but then threw six successive strikes.
