Australian tenpin champion Jason Belmonte has completed a great fortnight with a hard-fought win in the inaugural PBA Super Clash in Detriot.
The 30-year-old from Orange, NSW, beat American Sean Rash over three matches, 258-238, 241-258 and 244-222 in Sunday's battle of the two most recent Professional Bowlers Association players of the year - billed as the sport's fiercest rivalry.
Belmonte added another $US14,000 ($A15,985) to the $US40,000 prize he collected for winning last week's US Tournament of Champions after earlier being named World Bowler of the Year.
Both players had potentially game-changing splits that resulted in open frames in the final game at Thunderbowl Lanes but Belmonte strung together two sets of four strikes to win the overall match, 743-718.
"I don't want to lose the traditional way we compete on tour, but if the sport needs something like this to build momentum, I think it's great," Belmonte said.
"In this case you had two people who don't particularly like each other competing head-to-head which I thought was pretty exciting."
