The meeing at Greater Bendigo City Council ended positively for the local Muslim community, with the first mosque for the regional Victorian city approved.
Anti-mosque protesters filled the council chamber, voicing heated opinions throughout the meeting.
The proposal received over 200 letters of objection, with over 60 per cent of concerns focused on religious grounds.
Bendigo Councillor Elise Chapman spoke to Zara Zaher expressing her anger over the approval of the mosque.
