Star St George Illawarra playmaker Benji Marshall is set to sit out Friday's crucial NRL round 23 clash with Brisbane due to a leg injury.

Marshall suffered a grade one hamstring strain in the Dragons' thumping of the Warriors in Wellington last weekend.

The former Kiwi international has flown with his team to Brisbane from New Zealand, but club medical staff confirmed on Tuesday the injury will likely rule him out of the Suncorp Stadium encounter against the Broncos.

However he will return for the Dragons' next game against Penrith on Thursday week.

Coach Paul McGregor will make a decision on Friday on the fitness of three-quarter Dylan Farrell as he continues to battle a back complaint after he was a last-minute withdrawal in Wellington.

Will Matthews suffered a dislocated shoulder against the Warriors. He will visit a specialist on Friday to determine whether he will need surgery which will end his season or whether he can play on in 2015.
