Besson to make Transporter prequel

Luc Besson has revealed he is working on The Transporter 4, which will explore the origin story of Jason Statham's character Frank Martin.

French director Luc Besson could reboot his hit action franchise The Transporter with a new series of prequels - without leading man Jason Statham.

Besson, who wrote and produced the first film in 2002 and its two follow-ups in 2005 and 2008, has revealed he is working on The Transporter 4, which will explore the origin story of Statham's driver-for-hire character Frank Martin, and will, therefore, feature a younger actor in the Brit's place.

If the fourth movie is successful, the filmmaker plans on turning it into another trilogy.
