Best and worst dressed at Golden Globes

Metallics, one-shouldered dresses and colour rather than neutrals are the trends on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

Finally it seems celebrities are getting over boring insipid neutrals that have dominated red carpets for far too long.

The Golden Globes this year are awash with colour, bling and a healthy dose of fun.

One-shouldered dresses are trending, worn by Amy Adams, Laura Carmichael and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, while metallics are also big with Dakota Johnson, Julianne Moore and Diane Kruger shimmering up a storm.

Here is AAP's snapshot of the best and the worst dressed celebrities on the red carpet:

Best dressed

The Fifty Shades of Grey star was a stand out in a shimmering Chanel floor-length strapless gown with a split skirt. The bling factor is off the scale but she anchors the look with minimal accessories and natural looking hair and make-up.

The red head cut a pretty figure in a pale blue Versace one shoulder ruched gown. The colour almost exactly matched her eyes, which she framed with natural looking make-up. She is wearing her hair wavy and down with drop diamond earrings and a cuff bracelet to accessorise the look.

Naomi Watts

Watts' Bulgari diamond snake choker added a touch of quirk to her chic Gucci gown. The fitted bright yellow dress is off the shoulder. For her hair and make-up, she has gone classic Hollywood, with soft wavy tresses and a knock out red lip.

Emma Stone

The Birdman star has nailed the young yet sophisticated look in a killer Lanvin jumpsuit. The strapless top is embellished with crystal beads and the pants feature a dramatic taffeta bow. She has gone for glamorous coral lips, sleek black eyeliner and styled her lob in piecey waves.

Emily Blunt

Blunt looks beautiful in braids, drop aqua earrings and romantic Michael Kors dress. Her gown features a cross over top and falls elegantly to the floor. She has paired her statement earrings with a matching bracelet.

Julianne Moore

Wow, Julianne Moore looks stunning in shimmering custom Givenchy couture. The bodice of her sleeveless gown is fitted and covered in gleaming silver sequins and features feathers on the skirt. She is wearing her red locks wavy and down and has gone with a sexy smoky eye.

Worst dressed

Rosamund Pike

It pains us to say this but Rosamund Pike's Vera Wang gown just doesn't suit her. The thin straps and the cut outs on the top just don't flatter her lovely figure. It's a shame because the Gone Girl star nailed her hair and make-up: a natural looking face with a chic lob.

Lana Del Rey

It's hard to understand why Del Rey didn't realise she looks like a mermaid. Or maybe she does and she just likes mermaids. She is wearing a v-neck green dress with pleats and a bow. Too much going on.

Tina Fey

Fey's Antonio Berardi dress, which features an odd shaped skirt, could look playful on a 20-something actress but unfortunately the 44-year-old doesn't pull the look off - she just looks uncomfortable. The black and white strapless dress features scattered beading and she styled it with her hair pulled back into a ponytail. Not her best look.
