Veteran entertainer Bette Midler is seeking song requests from fans to help her decide what to sing at the Academy Awards in March.

The Beaches actor and Grammy-winning singer will take centre stage at the biggest night in Hollywood for the first time, and although Oscars bosses claimed her performance will be "especially moving", it appears Midler has yet to settle on her set list.

She reached out to her Twitter followers for track suggestions this week, writing; "Now that the news is out, what shall I sing at this years (sic) #Oscars?"

Her question prompted a flurry of responses from devotees, who recommended tunes such as 1973 hit Friends, My Knight in Black Leather from her 1979 album Thighs and Whispers, and You Don't Own Me from her 1996 movie The First Wives Club.
