Beveridge is St Kilda director of coaching

AFL club St Kilda has named Luke Beveridge director of coaching, but the Hawthorn assistant coach will stay at the Hawks for the rest of the 2014 season.

Hawthorn assistant coach Luke Beveridge will leave the AFL club at the end of the season to become St Kilda's director of coaching.

Beveridge has looked after the Hawks' backline since joining the club at the end of the 2011 season.

"Despite having offered Luke a contract to remain at the club beyond 2014, we understand his aspirations to step into a more senior role and this position at St Kilda allows him to do so," Hawks football manager Chris Fagan said in a statement.

Fagan, speaking to the AFL website after the Hawks won the 2013 premiership, was full of praise for the former Saints rover.

"His enthusiasm is outstanding. He is a deep thinker on the game so he offers a lot up at match committee, not just with the defensive group he looks after," Fagan said.

"What I really love about him is he is strong on his opinions. He doesn't always offer up what the group-think is. He sometimes thinks in an alternative manner and that is good for the group."
