Australia's Cameron Meyer has retained second place in the Tour of Britain while New Zealand's Patrick Bevin claimed the overall lead after finishing second after a gruelling stage three.
French rider Julian Alaphilippe won Tuesday's leg after a bunch sprint at the end of the 128-kilometre course around Bristol.
Alaphilippe benefited from a strong lead-out by Quick-Step Floors team mate Bob Jungels on the home straight as he finished ahead of Bevin (BMC Racing) and Emils Liepins (ONE Pro Cycling).
Bevin took the leader's green jersey thanks to six bonus seconds snatched on the finish line.
"It was hard all day - I'm not sure if the TV pictures did it justice, but the pace never really came off," Bevin said.
"The stage win would have been really nice, but we're still in the hunt for the overall."
Monday's stage winner Meyer, riding for Australian team Mitchelton Scott, finished in the main front group to ensure he stayed second.
Meyer's countryman Chris Hamilton (Team Sunweb), lies sixth overall.
