Beware flying pigs this election: Bandt

Voters in hotly contested seats should prepare for an inundation of pork in the lead-up to the federal election, a Greens MP has warned.

Greens MP Adam Bandt has a warning for voters in marginal electorates in the run-up to election day - beware of flying pigs.

He was referring to a $1.6 billion government war chest outlined in this week's budget papers, suggesting it will be used for pork barrelling - the practice of using taxpayer money to shore up votes in closely contested seats.

"If you live in a marginal seat you won't be able to get out your front door for all the pork over the next few weeks - some of it might even be flying," Mr Bandt told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.
