Mining giant BHP Billiton will cut at least 100 jobs at its Melbourne head office after completing its South32 demerger in May.
BHP Billiton said due to the company's ongoing focus on simplification, it expects the number of employees in Melbourne to "potentially move to around 300 employees" over the coming years, down from 400 employees.
"This number is a planning basis," a BHP spokesperson said.
"This will be a gradual process over a number of years and includes the movement of BHP Billiton's Treasury division to London."
The company said it will continue to consult with employees at its Collins Street headquarters and that it is in full compliance with its foreign investment review board (FIRB) commitments.
The Australian Financial Review reports that staffing in Melbourne recently peaked at about 480 positions prior to job cuts being announced.
