It's estimated that less than half of eligible Indigenous Australians are enrolled to vote, and of these, less than half actually do.
The Australian Electoral Commission is hoping that in the upcoming federal election, it will see some success from a campaign to boost the numbers.
Spokesman Bob Eckhardt told Thea Cowie that to try to boost the proportion, Indigenous Australians in some remote areas are being given the opportunity to vote well before the rest of the country.
