Big Brother announces housemate hunt

This is a good time to sign up for a reality TV series. Entries are open for My Kitchen Rules, and Big Brother is about to start hunting for housemates.

Reality show wannabes now have two casting calls to chose from after the Nine Network announced Big Brother will start its annual housemate hunt next month.

The Seven Network's My Kitchen Rules (MKR) is already accepting applications for the sixth series of the amateur cooking show on its website.

MKR applications are for teams of two and the couple must have a pre-existing relationship.

They must also be Australian citizens, or have been permanent residents for at least two years, and be at least 18 years old.

Big Brother has the same minimum age and residency requirements as My Kitchen Rules but you don't have to nominate yourself for the Nine series.

This year you can "nominate a mate" who you think would be a great housemate.

The series' producers have also increased the number of audition venues and dates in 2014 to get a wider spread of applicants.

The search for housemates begins in Perth on April 3.

It then heads to Brisbane (April 5 and 6), Newcastle (April 10), Sydney (April 12 and 13), Albury (April 15), Launceston (April 23), Melbourne (April 26 and 27), Adelaide (April 29), Canberra (May 1) and Townsville (May 7).
