Bikie past wont affect vote: Qld candidate

A One Nation candidate for the upcoming Queensland election doesn't expect his former Hells Angels membership to play poorly during his campaign.

A One Nation candidate says his brief stint in the Hells Angel motorcycle club will likely win support among disenchanted voters keen to back a political anomaly.

Scott Bannan is contesting the seat of Logan at the next state election, and says he has been up front with his community about his former membership of a motorcycle club outlawed in Queensland.

The father-of-three and three times world champion Muay Thai kickboxer said the 12 months he spent in the club a decade ago was unlikely to dissuade voters who recognised his heavy involvement in local sporting clubs and activities.

Mr Bannan, 43, said his membership was no secret, and that he expects the Palaszczuk Labor government and LNP would use his experience to try to discredit him as the election draws nearer.

"This is the only card they've got and we know they're going to play it, and I think if anything it's going to turn people off them more than it's going to turn them off me," he told AAP.

"I don't know much about (the club) now because it's been so long, but when I was in it you rode a Harley and were old boys.

"I didn't do anything stupid, I've got no criminal record."

The Logan seat is currently held by Labor MP Linus Power.

Mr Bannan accused both sides of government of being out of touch, and said his reputation as a family man and active community member set him apart from other candidates.

He runs a concreting business with his wife, Linda, coaches his youngest son's under 10's football team - which he hopes to continue if elected - is heavily involved in the popular Supercross event and is recognised for his sporting victories.

"I just think people want a normal bloke that can relate to what they're going through," he said.

Mr Bannan said he had so far struggled with the sales pitch aspect of the campaign, but will focus on local issues, including the need for more shelters for male and female victims of domestic violence.
