Bird has Super League suspension reduced

Catalans' Greg Bird has had his four-match ban for a dangerous throw in the Super League reduced by one game on appeal.

Former NSW Origin and Australia forward Greg Bird has had his four-match Super League ban reduced to three matches on appeal.

The Catalans Dragons enforcer pleaded guilty to a dangerous throw on Halifax winger Ben Heaton during his side's 24-0 victory in Sunday's Qualifiers clash at the Shay.

However, Bird challenged the severity of the charge and a Rugby Football League independent operational rules tribunal agreed to amend it from grade D to C and cut the suspension to three games while upholding the STG300 ($490) fine.

It means Bird will still miss all three of the relegation-threatened Dragons' remaining Super 8s fixtures, starting with the visit of Featherstone to Perpignan on Saturday, but he will be able to play in the Million Pound Game on September 30 - if his club are involved.

The Million Pound Game is played between the sides which finish fourth and fifth and determines which team will play in Super League next year.
