Birmingham to iron out school funding

The federal education minister has flagged he intends to strike new schools funding agreements with the states that will be in place from 2018.

Simon Birmingham told ABC TV the former Labor government's 27 different Gonski funding agreements had led to inconsistencies across the country.

He insisted the federal government was still committed to the concept of needs-based schools funding.
