Julie Bishop will launch a networking club for women in the media industry in Canberra.

The foreign minister is to deliver the inaugural Women in Media Canberra address at the National Press Club on Tuesday.

The club aims to support the careers of female journalists, photographers and media workers through mentoring programs and networking opportunities.

Ms Bishop is the only female cabinet minister in the Abbott government - a move which attracted much criticism for the coalition.

Meanwhile, the prime minister's chief of staff Peta Credlin has created a similar networking group for female government staffers to support them into leadership roles.
