The Black Caps will be unchanged for the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka on a green-looking Seddon Park pitch.

That means retaining four quicks in the match beginning on Friday, with Doug Bracewell and Neil Wagner backing up the new ball duo of Tim Southee and Trent Boult.

Two-Test all-rounder Mitchell Santner will provide the main spin option ahead of Mark Craig.

Top-order batsman Kane Williamson pointed to the conditions as a major factor in going with the extra seamer, as New Zealand did in their 122-run first Test win in Dunedin.

"It's green," he said.

"Dunedin was green and we just feel that it might be more suited to seam bowling."

Williamson said there was an element of not changing a winning team, but the conditions were the major factor.

He suggested that the Black Caps would bowl first if skipper Brendon McCullum won the toss.

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum (capt), Tom Latham, Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling, Mitchell Santner, Doug Bracewell, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult.
