Black Jacks knock over Aussies in bowls

New Zealand have finished the Asia Pacific bowls championship with a second gold medal after the men's four beat Australia 16-14 in the final.

The New Zealand men's four have come from behind to beat Australia 16-14 and claim gold at the Asia Pacific bowls championship in Christchurch.

The combination of Mike Nagy, Andrew Kelly, Shannon McIlroy and skip Paul Girdler had found themselves down 10-6 after 12 of the final's 18 ends on Sunday.

Australians Wayne Ruediger, Ray Pearse, Nathan Rice and Mark Casey had just scored a three for the first significant lead in what had been a tight battle.

But, in what turned out to be the decisive period of the match, the Black Jacks stormed back to win the next four ends, collecting a combined 10 shots.

That pushed them out to a 16-10 advantage and they did enough in the last two ends to close out the contest.

The victory meant a second title for Nagy, Kelly and Girdler, who had beaten Malaysia in the men's triples final on Friday.

New Zealand ended the tournament with two golds, a silver for Mike Kernaghan in the men's singles and four bronze medals.
