Retired Brownlow Medallist Simon Black will stay on with the Brisbane Lions as an assistant coach.
Barely two weeks after hanging up his boots, Black knocked back offers from rival AFL clubs to link with new head coach and former premiership teammate Justin Leppitsch's staff for the next two years.
In his new role, Black will be largely responsible for the club's forward line.
He joins a relatively new-look Lions coaching panel which includes Leppitsch, Peter Schwab, Shane Woewodin, Murray Davis, Gary O'Donnell, Mitch Hahn and Leigh Harding.
"He was naturally in high demand, so we're thrilled that Simon's decided to stay," Leppitsch said.
"He's one of the most driven, skilful and competitive individuals I have ever come across, so there's no better person for our players to learn from.
"If his dedication to coaching is anything like it was as a player, then I have no doubt that he will have a long and successful career ahead of him."
The Lions assembled for pre-season training on Tuesday and will fly out on Wednesday for a high altitude camp in Arizona.
