People who lost loved ones and property in a devastating Black Saturday bushfire in Victoria are kicking off a class action against a major electricity company.
The Murrindindi bushfire killed 40 people, gutted 50 homes and destroyed millions of dollars worth of property in February 2009.
The class action will allege that a power line sparked the deadly blaze behind the Murrindindi Saw Mill, north of Melbourne.
The group will claim Ausnet Electricity Services was negligent in its "construction and configuration" of its equipment.
The Victorian Supreme Court class action will begin at 10.15am on Wednesday.
