Two-try hero Cheyse Blair faces being dumped from Melbourne's NRL preliminary final line-up but says returning centre Will Chambers deserves his spot.
Blair was key to their week-one qualifying final win over South Sydney, nailing two second half tries that included the 74th-minute effort which locked up the score before Cameron Munster's match-winning field goal.
But the 26-year-old conceded he was set to make way for the return of Test centre Will Chambers, who has spent the past three games out through suspension.
"I think Will probably deserves his position in this team - he's been here for a long time," Blair said on Tuesday.
"In saying that I will keep training hard to keep the coaches' eyes on me."
It's a tough break for Blair, who missed last year's grand final triumph after a broken ankle ended his season in July.
With Curtis Scott cementing himself in the position in his absence, Blair has only managed eight games this year.
He said missing the 2018 grand final was driving him to make an impact if he got another chance.
"I'm still hurting from last year - I played the first 12-15 games and then broke my ankle and watched the team win the GF," Blair said.
"It's good for the club and I'm happy for all the boys but sometimes I wish that was me as well."
Set to host the winner of Friday night's Cronulla-Penrith semi-final to earn a grand final berth, Melbourne were put through their paces at an open training session.
Ryley Jacks wore the No.7 jersey with first-choice halfbacks Brodie Croft and Jahrome Hughes sitting out training with knee injuries.
Croft was notably limping with his knee and elbow heavily bandaged, but Storm officials said it was nothing that would keep him out of the play-off.
Giant prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona looks like he will be available for the sudden-death match, running strongly on his ankle after missing their last three games.
