Blame Labor for super freeze, says Hockey

Treasurer Joe Hockey has sought to pin the blame on Labor for any adverse impact an employer contribution freeze will have on superannuation accounts.

Hockey has admitted freezing increases to compulsory superannuation contributions for the next seven years, which is set to cost the average Australian one-hundred-thousand dollars, is not the government's preferred option.

And he says Labor played themselves out of the game by not supporting the government's initial proposal of a two-year delay to Labor's plan for a 12 per cent contribution rate by 2019/20.
