A major blaze at a car wrecking business in Adelaide's north has been contained.

A fire at a car wrecking yard in Adelaide - the second blaze at the site in just over a month - has now been contained.

The Metropolitan Fire Service deployed 20 firefighters to the scene at suburban Wingfield on Wednesday morning, to battle the blaze which engulfed a number of cars.

Police had called on motorists to avoid the area, while locals were urged to close their doors and windows.

However, the MFS said smoke from the blaze was now minimal and the area around the wrecking yard was considered safe.

A fire at the wrecking yard in March also caused significant damage, an MFS spokesman said.

No injuries have been reported to firefighters or workers at the site.

The MFS said the cause of the blaze was not considered suspicious.
