Easter may mean eggs and days off, but it's also a critical time for blood donations.
More than 1000 donors are still needed over the Easter long-weekend to prevent a shortage of blood products, such as platelets, for cancer patients and road trauma victims.
Platelets only last five days so can't be stockpiled.
Demand for blood increases in the lead-up to and immediately following a long weekend but donations drop away when people go on holiday, says Blood Service spokesman Shaun Inguanzo.
People are being urged to make a booking on 13 14 95 to give blood on Easter Saturday, Sunday or Monday.
