NSW coach Laurie Daley has hatched a plan to unleash Andrew Fifita in the State of Origin decider after the Blues prop was reined in by Queensland in game two.

After his game-changing heroics in Origin I, the Cronulla front-rower was nullified by the Maroons in the return clash.

The Queenslanders, in particular lock Josh Maguire, swarmed on him in defence and cut down his time as he was limited to 77 metres from 14 runs.

His output in game two was less than half of what he produced in the series opener - 168m, one try, one linebreak, seven tackle busts and two offloads.

And the Blues success in next week's game three in Brisbane hinges on whether Daley can discover a way to get Fifita back to his freewheeling best.

"I think there's a couple of things we'll do differently with Andrew," Daley told Fox Sports' NRL360.

"Obviously he had a target on his head, we all knew that. But there's a couple of things we can do to help Andrew's game.

"We'd all love to see a game one performance again. But I think most people realise that would be pretty difficult to do."

"We just need him to be consistent with his game, we need him to go forward and we need him to create some ruck speed for us. We're confident with some little variations we can do that."
