Collingwood are looking to celebrate their 125th anniversary with a win against Carlton, but the Blues would love nothing more than to spoil the party.
The Magpies' milestone adds yet another element to the 254th instalment of one of the most celebrated rivalries in Australian sport.
Carlton coach Brendon Bolton said he didn't need to school his younger players on the importance of the occasion.
"I think they are aware of the rivalry, they've only got to walk around and people talk about (it),'' Bolton said.
"It's the Peter Mac Cup, which is an important occasion.
"On top of that 125 years (for Collingwood). They're looking forward to a fierce contest and I'm sure we'll get that from them.
"It's really good experience for Charlie Curnow, Jacob Weitering, Tom Williamson ... all of those younger guys.
"Getting that exposure is going to be fantastic for them"
Bolton made two changes for Saturday's highly-anticipated clash at the MCG, with Dale Thomas returning after a two-match break and former Adelaide forward Sam Kerridge also included.
Both teams have been inconsistent on their way to 2-4 records, but head into the clash as last-start winners.
Carlton notched a 19-point victory in round six that kept winless Sydney anchored to the bottom of the ladder, while Collingwood stunned previously unbeaten Geelong by 29 points.
"What I did see last week was a Collingwood team that moved the ball a bit more aggressively through the corridor," Bolton said.
"So we need to be on defensively, there's no doubt about that, all our layers of defence need to be strong."
The Pies will be without injured speedster Travis Varcoe (hamstring), with Henry Schade (managed) and Tim Broomhead (omitted) also out.
Jordan De Goey will be keen to impress after serving a three-game club-imposed ban, with important defender Ben Reid and Jackson Ramsay also included.
