NSW captain Paul Gallen has had a quiet word with David Klemmer to ensure the Blues firebrand maintains his composure in State of Origin II.

Klemmer successfully got under the skin of the Maroons in game one last month and shapes as a key interchange weapon for the Blues at the MCG on Wednesday.

However, as evidenced by his blow-up earlier this year with referee Ben Cummins, who will officiate in Melbourne, Gallen said Klemmer needed to keep a lid on his emotions.

"Some of the young blokes coming off the bench they are very passionate," Gallen said on Tuesday.

"We have seen Klem lose his head before, but I have spoken to him and just told him to stay relaxed and just worry about doing his job.

"Queensland are very experienced in that department, guys like Nate Myles might be trying to bait him but he will be more than up to it, he will be calm and he will be up to it.

"He is a great kid, he is really respectful, he really wants to learn you can tell that about his football and he has a big future in front of him."

Gallen said he believed NSW had the edge over the Maroons up front.

"I certainly think in game one, in the first 40 minutes we really dominated them," Gallen said.

"In the second 40 minutes it was probably pretty even and you saw Queensland get the win, so that is an area we have to be better than Qld in and if we are better than them we probably win."
